David is an industry professional with over 47 years’ experience in heavy transport.

From joining the family transport business as a traffic clerk, David progressed through to transport manager. In 1995 he was appointed as managing director of the company and has developed it to become the specialist multimodal transport operator that we know today.

As a passionate member of the heavy transport fraternity, David has been heavily involved in various industry associations for several decades. In 2001 he was appointed chairman of the Heavy Transport Association (HTA) in the UK and held the position for seven years and is still currently an active board member.

In 2006 David was also appointed as president of the Transport Section of the European Association of Abnormal Transport and Mobile Cranes (ESTA) and subsequently in 2013 was appointed president of ESTA, a position he held for the maximum term of nine years. Once again, he is still an active member of the ESTA board of directors.

David has led his company specifically in working for the wind energy sector since 1996. Collett & Sons is recognised as a leading transport operator in the UK for this market. He has witnessed and experienced the exponential growth of wind turbine construction. During this time, he has been instrumental in the development of trailer designs by manufacturers for this evolving sector within the power generation industry.
